Our story

“And suddenly the memory returns. The taste was that of the little crumb of madeleine which on Sunday mornings at Combray, when I went to say good day to her in her bedroom, my aunt Léonie used to give me, dipping it first in her own cup of real or lime-flower tea…”

Marcel Proust, Remembrance of things past

Infuso Natura came about in the same way that a short story full of Proustian memories comes into being. The main characters in our story are my grandmother and a book; both marked the beginning of a success story. For over twenty years now, Infuso Natura has been blending taste and traditions in our small kitchen factory to create liqueurs and jams of days gone by. So, let’s get on and tell you our story…

Once upon a time far, far away there lived a family who were bound to the values and traditions of Salento. It was 1995 when Sergio and Eliana decided to take up a challenge which came about by pure chance. “At the time I was penniless, I remember the idea came to me completely out of the blue. I was going through a rough patch because I had just lost my job. I recall the moment clearly, it was a sort of penny dropping moment and my life changed overnight. I was sitting with my head resting on an old bookcase, not thinking about anything in particular, when all of a sudden I noticed an old liqueur recipe book. I had the strangest feeling and my head came over all hot. This is when I had a flash of what my business would be like. I talked to my wife about what seemed like a crazy idea at the time but she was with me right from the start.”

Infuso Natura has been going strong ever since.

Sergio’s grandmother Lucia has played an important role in this story. His memories of her are filled with tenderness and also a little melancholy.

“She would spend the whole summer long carefully choosing the best fruit to use. So much love went into preparing jams, spreads, grapes steeped in liqueur and herbal liqueurs. It was like a ritual for her, and for me it was fascinating and entrancing to see how much pleasure she got from making these things. She was so happy when we went to visit her on those long wintry Sunday afternoons because she could finally serve her delicious delicacies. She would go to the dresser and take out dainty glasses, forks and everything else that she needed.” The same love and care go into creating our products. Our jams and liqueurs are like that tiny madeleine of days gone by.

Our little kitchen factory has seen its fair share of recipes over the last twenty years but even if we introduce new flavours our products are bestowed with the same love and care that my grandmother put into her pots and jars. Even the most demanding customers will be amazed.
